What is IT asset disposition?

IT asset disposition (ITAD) is the process of retiring business technology in a controlled way: collecting the equipment, documenting it, removing or destroying the data it holds, recovering value from anything reusable, and responsibly recycling the rest.

What types of equipment do you accept?

Desktops, laptops, servers, hard drives and SSDs, phones and tablets, networking gear, monitors, printers and copiers, point-of-sale systems, phone systems, UPS units, peripherals, and other business electronics. If you are unsure, describe the equipment and we will tell you.

Do you pick up business equipment?

Yes. We coordinate pickup from offices, warehouses, schools, and other facilities in Southeast Wisconsin. Minimums, fees, and large-equipment handling are confirmed when we scope the job.

What happens to hard drives and SSDs?

Data-bearing media is tracked from pickup and handled through a data sanitization (secure wipe) or physical destruction process selected for the device type and your requirements. Documentation of the outcome, such as a certificate of data destruction, is provided where available.

Should hard drives be wiped or shredded?

Secure wiping overwrites the data and lets a working drive be reused or resold, which preserves value. Physical destruction (shredding or crushing) is used for failed drives, highly sensitive data, or when your policy requires it. Many organizations use both: wipe what can be reused, destroy the rest.

Why does data destruction matter for retired computers?

Retired computers, servers, phones, and copiers often still hold customer records, employee information, financial data, and saved passwords. Deleting files or reformatting does not reliably remove that data. Documented sanitization or destruction is what closes the gap.

Can you provide data destruction documentation?

Documentation such as an asset inventory, serial-number report, and data destruction certificate can be provided based on the agreed process. These records support your own compliance and record-keeping efforts.

Can you recover value from used computers and servers?

Often, yes. Eligible equipment is inspected, tested, and graded, then evaluated for resale, refurbishment, or parts recovery. Recovery outcomes depend on the equipment and are determined after inspection, not promised in advance.

Do you support office moves and technology refreshes?

Yes. Moves, upgrades, lease returns, and closures are common reasons businesses contact us. We plan the pickup around your timeline and handle disposition of everything that is not moving with you.

Do you accept small quantities?

Contact us with what you have. Small-quantity handling and any minimums are confirmed during scoping.

What happens to equipment that cannot be resold?

It moves down the disposition hierarchy: refurbishment where appropriate, then parts recovery, then responsible recycling through material-recovery channels. Data-bearing media that cannot be reused is securely destroyed.

Do you sell refurbished computers to consumers?

Yes. Selected business computers are inspected, cleaned, and tested before being offered to consumers at our Milwaukee location. Call or send a note to hear what is currently available; warranty and return terms are explained before you buy.

What is the difference between ITAD and e-waste recycling?

E-waste recycling focuses on recovering materials from discarded electronics. IT asset disposition adds the steps businesses need before recycling: chain-of-custody tracking, data destruction, asset-level documentation, and evaluating equipment for reuse or resale. Recycling is the last step of ITAD, not the whole process.

How much does IT asset disposition cost?

Cost depends on equipment types and quantities, the number of data-bearing devices, pickup location and access, and the documentation you need. Resale or recovery value from eligible equipment can offset some or all of the cost. Every project is quoted after we review your equipment list; there is no standard price sheet.

When should a business schedule IT asset disposition?

The most common triggers are hardware refresh cycles, office moves or closures, lease returns, mergers, and storage rooms that have filled up with old equipment. Scheduling before a move or refresh is easiest, but a backlog of retired equipment can be handled at any time.

What information is needed for a quote?

Equipment types, approximate quantities, the pickup location, your timeline, and whether you need data destruction, recovery, documentation, or all three. A photo or equipment list is helpful but not required.
