Pet and child friendly gets printed on a lot of cleaning material and it does not always mean much. For us it comes down to three practical things.
1. Products you can be in the room with
Nobody should have to leave the house while it is being cleaned, and no dog should have to be shut in the car. We choose products with that as the constraint, and we carry an environmentally safe line for clients who ask for it specifically. Low fume, low residue, and safe on the floors animals actually lie on.
2. Floors get rinsed, not just wiped
A film of cleaner left on a hard floor is a film a crawling child and a barefoot dog both pick up. Floors get a proper rinse pass. It takes longer and it is the right way to do it.
3. We work around the animals, not through them
Tell us where the pets will be and which doors need to stay closed. Most dogs settle within a visit or two once they recognise the crew, which is one more reason we try to send the same people to the same houses.
Two dogs, a cat and a toddler is a completely normal working day. Tell us what we are walking into and it is genuinely not a problem.
The hair question
Pet hair is the single most common thing clients want addressed and it is worth being honest about: a vacuum pass removes most of it, and a heavy shedding household will still find some between visits. Shorter intervals help more than harder scrubbing does. Weekly households with animals stay noticeably cleaner than bi-weekly ones.
